Many young aspiring football journalists are benefiting from gaining plenty of experience covering football thanks to two fellow UCFB students.
Lucy Casey and Daniel Marshall are founders of The Woodwork, a multimedia football company which covers both men’s and women’s football.
Approximately 30 contributors help towards The Woodwork’s media output, with many of them being UCFB BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism students.
Daniel said: “It is a platform to get university students involved in the football industry, and that was our main goal.
“We’ve given them that platform and it’s turned into something that we’re very passionate about.”
Lucy added: “As Multimedia Sports Journalism students ourselves, we wanted to be what we needed in First Year, when there wasn’t a place to make our stance in the industry.”
Daniel said: “One of our big aims is ‘The income will come, let’s focus on making an impact,’ and I think that’s what we’ve been striving for.”
Talking about the progression of contributors, Lucy said: “We’ve got people now working at their local club, people branching out further and now becoming social media managers. For us to see that, it’s really good.”
The Woodwork are also looking for people to assist with writing articles or working as social media assistants on their channels. If you are interested in gaining work experience with The Woodwork, email thewoodworkenquires@gmail.com.
Alternatively, email lucyycaseyy@gmail.com if you are interested in providing content on women’s football.
