UCFB graduate travelling and thriving in events role at golf’s DP World Tour

A UCFB graduate is now travelling for her work as an accreditation executive on the European golf championship, the DP World Tour.

Mia Hynes, who studied BA (Hons) Stadium and Event Management, has said that this huge step so early in her sports industry career has shown her so much about the industry and the hosting of events.

Speaking about her role, she said: “I assist in accrediting all individuals who are attending DP World Tour events in a working capacity.

“This involves working with both internal and external groups to complete the process of accrediting their staff who are attending the event. I will then be based at the event for the distribution of these passes.”

Mia initially met a member of the tour’s recruitment team at a UCFB Careers Fair, before being contacted for an interview after leaving her details and CV.

“I have always had a passion for golf,” Mia said. “I have played competitively since I was 12 and have always loved watching professional golf. During my time at UCFB, I focused a lot of my coursework projects, including my dissertation, on the golf industry.”

She added: “I have loved my time in golf so far. I get to travel the world watching golfers I grew up learning from, completing work that challenges me and allows me to aid my professional development.

“The sport industry as a whole is a very demanding and fast-paced place, however I am very happy I decided to go down this career path.”

Speaking about her time at UCFB, Mia said: “My UCFB degree really helped me when getting this position. Already having strong knowledge and great experiences and opportunities at UCFB allowed for me to be confident throughout the whole recruitment process.

“I felt very supported throughout my whole time at UCFB, with lecturers who not only have an excellent academic knowledge but also a wide variety of industry experiences.”

When asked the best thing about working in sport, she said: “No two events are the same. It is a fast-paced and evolving industry, meaning it is very exciting to work in. You get to be involved in delivering events that bring joy to so many people and can be very rewarding.”

She finished: “Golf is an industry that is growing rapidly. There will always be opportunities perfect for those who have a great desire to succeed. Take every opportunity that comes and go out and find more! Speak to lecturers who will help you go out and find new, different and interesting things that will expand your knowledge and experience.”
