A UCFB lecturer has been talking about his career in football in the latest episode of our ‘In The Hot Seat’ podcast series.
Daniel Bedeau, who is a lecturer in MSc Performance Analysis in Football at UCFB Wembley, joined us in the Arch View House broadcast suite, talking about his previous roles in the field of scouting of analysis within football.
Prior to his work at UCFB, Daniel held roles in non-league, Football League, Premier League and international football.
Currently, alongside his role at UCFB, Daniel still works in football as the academy performance analyst at Watford FC.
Having been involved with The Hornets since 2013 in an analyst role, he spoke on the podcast about the highlight of his career within the football industry.
“My biggest highlight was in 2015 when we got promoted to the Premier League. That was because I was working with the first team, as well as with the academy, and being a part of that and seeing my help and work be appreciated and come to the point where the team was able to get promoted to the Premier League.”
Daniel then went on to talk about his course at UCFB and the potential careers available for those who study and desire a future role in the field.
“The course is about analysing data, contextualising data, analysing performances of the team and understanding what skillset is needed for you to go further in your career as a performance analyst.
“With analysis, there’s so many sections: recruitment analysis, data analysis, match analysis, coaching analysis. There’s so many different roles and avenues to try to find your own unique path.”
He finished by offering advice for people wanting a career in the football and wider sports industry.
He said: “Work hard, try a different area of the sporting world, be unique. As you start getting into the field, you will learn what you need to do to have a good and successful career.”
