UCFB graduate Minnie Roe sat down with us as the latest guest in our ‘In The Hotseat’ podcast series to talk us through her journey from UCFB to where she is today.
Minnie studied MSc Football Communications and Digital Marketing at UCFB, and now works as a partnerships executive at Premier Sports Network, after spending three seasons at Fulham FC.
As she sat down for the podcast, she spoke about studying a postgraduate degree at UCFB and where her Master’s degree as taken her.
Looking back on her time at UCFB, Minnie spoke about how her experience was incredible for preparing her for a career in sport.
Talking specifically about the work/university balance, she said: “Because we were only in university on a Monday and Tuesday for the whole day, we had the rest of the week to work on our assignments, but also take a step back and think How do I break into the industry?
“There’s a lot of talk at UCFB about extra-curricular, volunteering, gaining experience anywhere you can, and I really took that on.”
Minnie also mentioned how meeting like-minded people on the course was one of the highlights of her time at UCFB.
“I was really lucky,” she said. “Some of my best friends are friends I made on my Master’s course.
“There was a tight-knit group of around four of us, who worked on projects together. Luckily, we all had the same passion, and they’ve all gone on to do amazing things in the sports industry as well.”
She finished by offering advice for UCFB students thinking about whether to continue their sports industry higher education via a postgraduate degree course.
“I would 100 per cent recommend going for it,” she said. “The network you make, the people you meet, the extra-curricular opportunities are unmatched anywhere else, whether that be at the Wembley Campus or the Manchester Campus.”
UCFB has a number of postgraduate degree courses, all tailored to the football and wider sports industry. Find out more about each of them, available at both UCFB Manchester and UCFB Wembley.
