Two UCFB students are gaining valuable sports industry experience, working in the media department of a Manchester-based ice hockey side.
Manchester Storm, an Elite Ice Hockey League team, have working for them:
Speaking about her role, Caitlin said: “My main responsibilities are all things social media.
“That includes making sure everything gets done ready for game nights and also working with the players to film interviews and the fun content on our social media.
“My match night is very much the managing of everything rather than capturing content. During the week is when the preparation towards the end of the week happens, such as capturing content with players.”
Matthew meanwhile, works in commentary and the broadcast area of the club on a matchday.
“Everything I learn from my tutors, I can transfer directly to what I’m doing at Manchester Storm,” Matthew said. “The skills are directly transferable.
“When the camera’s on, that comes down to your natural self. Having two years at UCFB so far, I’m able to draw on what I’ve been taught and use it day to day.”
Manchester Storm is one of the many sports clubs across Greater Manchester benefitting from welcoming UCFB students on board.
“We have a really strong group of volunteers who get involved with the live tweeting and getting content,” Caitlin said.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming more UCFB students on board as the season goes on, and hopefully in the future.”
Matthew added: “This opportunity has really benefitted me personally and professionally. Being able to do so much in so many different avenues of sports media is invaluable.”
UCFB’s undergraduate courses allow students to take that first step towards their dream career in sport, whether media, coaching, business or any other field.
