Media and Marketing Officer at Maidenhead United

One of our graduates recently caught up with us about their career in football since graduating from UCFB, working in the National League.

Grace Scott, a BA (Hons) Football Business and Media graduate from UCFB Wembley, is now working as Media and Marketing Officer at Maidenhead United FC.

Grace spoke to us at York Road, the home of the Magpies, about what she thought of her three years studying at UCFB, and how life is treating her as she works full time in the sports industry.

Grace said: “I feel that the skills the course gave me have allowed me to progress and take on many roles within this club.

“I really liked the course because it really touched on my interests. My passion was in football and media and alongside the business element as well, I felt it combined all my interests and career ambitions into one.”

“I started my placement at Maidenhead United during my first year at UCFB, so I carried on throughout the whole three years so it really gave me the opportunity to do my assignments on placement and really get some industry experience alongside my studies the whole way through.”

UCFB was extremely important in developing my skills and knowledge within my area of work and allowed me to create relationships with friends, academics, and professionals within the industry.

Grace added: “Working in football, you’re constantly travelling to football matches and seeing and meeting the other people there, so I feel that now there are so many UCFB students that have gone on to work at football clubs, it’s so great catching up with them.

“The highlight of studying at UCFB would have to be having the guest speakers in the industry coming into UCFB and talking about their experiences.

“I found that so inspiring and now I feel like I’m doing that at open days, so I feel like it’s a real full circle.”

She finished: “My best advice would be to be confident and network with people, even if it’s just an informal message asking how they are and how they’re doing.

“If you’re turning up to a football match and there’s a busy press box, no matter who it is, just start a conversation because you never know where that conversation will lead.”
