Where Are They Now: Abbie Glover – Social Media Executive at Millwall FC

A UCFB graduate is now forging a career in the media department of a Championship club, only months after graduating from UCFB.

Abbie Glover, who studied BA (Hons) Football Business and Media at UCFB Wembley, now works as a social media executive at Millwall FC.

She spent her final year at UCFB at The Den, working as a media intern at The Lions alongside her Third Year studies.

Speaking about her role, she said: “I make content and publish it across all of the Millwall channels, so Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, anything you can think of.

“I work closely with the players to, you know, capture behind-the-scenes content and stuff that’s quite ball, shows their personality, stuff that you don’t normally get to see.

“On a matchday, it can consist of, once again, making content, capturing goals pitchside, interviewing, editing. Anything that you can think of social-wise sits normally with me and the social media manager.”

She added: “I feel really lucky to have got this job so early in my career. I feel like I had to sacrifice quite a lot when I was younger and you know I worked quite hard to get to this level.

“I’ve obviously worked from non-league all the way up so you know it’s really nice to finally reap the rewards.”

Abbie went on to say how the experience she gained in the sports industry while at UCFB helped her gain her current role.

“I wouldn’t be in the job I am now without the workplace experiences,” she said. “My experiences at Barnet in the National League is what got me the job here and what made my manager even look at my message.

“I think taking those experiences and making the most of them and putting yourself out there and doing the extra work, going in on extra days that aren’t a match day to make training content, fun videos, was super important in getting me my job now.”

Speaking specifically about her time at UCFB, she said: “I think the main thing, for me, that make UCFB stand out, was the experiences you get.

“I keep saying it, but seeing that you’ve got these opportunities and they have these partnerships and these platforms for you to get the jobs was a major drawing point for me.

“Also, you’re doing your degree in Wembley, and the people you meet. So yeah, I think the opportunities is what drew me to UCFB.

She finished: “I think the advice I’d give to students wanting to work in sport is to take the opportunities, don’t be afraid to ask because the worst they can say is no, and to be persistent.

“Keep asking the questions, reach out to people, make the most of your experiences, put in the extra work and work hard for it.”
