A UCFB student has been speaking about how grateful he is to UCFB for helping him break into the sports industry.
Nathan Greenslade, who studies MSc Football Business at our Manchester Campus, now has a role as judicial services administrator at the Football Association.
Nathan spoke to us about how although he studied an undergraduate degree in Modern Foreign Languages, his heart always remained in getting a career in the football industry.
He said: “UCFB was ultimately perfect for this as it has the edge of industry-specific courses, with like-minded people.
“UCFB redefines what an academic experience should be, providing networking opportunities and careers days to build connections and gain hands-on learning of the industry.”
Speaking about his specific degree course, Nathan added: “What MSc Football Business provides is an insight into a plethora of areas within the business. I was therefore gaining knowledge about the finances of football, fan engagement, sports law and governance.
“Ultimately, I gravitated towards the latter two which has resulted in my position within the Legal and Governance Department at the FA.”
During his time at UCFB, Nathan was able to take advantage of multiple opportunities, building professional relationships through work placements and volunteering opportunities.
These included clubs such as Burnley FC and FC United of Manchester, as well as gaining a job at a sports marketing agency.
“All of these extra efforts were crucial in my opinion to finding myself in my work today,” he said.
When asked about his course leaders, Nathan said: “We were lucky enough to have some top-level course leaders within our Master’s course. They were all engaging, friendly and knowledgeable.
“I have no doubts that their wisdom and encouragement gave us all the confidence to excel in our modules.”
He added: “Not only are we given the educational baseline, but we are presented with endless opportunities to network, build employability skills and personally develop outside of the core studies.”
He finished: “Take advantage of these opportunities. What you put into your time at UCFB is ultimately what you will take out of it. Thankfully my persistence to take advantage of these opportunities have gotten me to where I am today, and I am lucky enough to call what I do my job.”
