UCFB hosted another Raise Your Game event alongside industry partners Kick It Out and Sky, focusing on creating opportunities in the world of sports media.
The event, held at our Arch View House facility at UCFB Wembley, aimed to promote opportunities for young people from underrepresented backgrounds and communities who are desperate to score their career goals in sports media.
Attendees were able to learn much from the event, listening to panel discussions and keynote speakers, as well as network with the array of industry professionals attending.
One of the guests at the event was sports broadcaster and presenter Sirayah Shiraz.
Speaking about the event and all the good it brings, she said: “I think it’s our responsibility as people in the media that are thriving to pass that on and we should create a space for people of every age, every background, so it’s really important to come in and show people how achievable it is through really different avenues.”
Another guest was David Ornstein, football correspondent for The Athletic. He offered some words of wisdom to the people attending.
“The world is your oyster,” he said. “You are the author of your own destiny and it’s possible to do whatever you want, but it doesn’t come free or easy or cheap. You tend to get out what you put in, and if you don’t, then you go again.”
Several of the attendees also had words to say about the event and what they’re hoping to take from it into their future sports media careers.
Aryan said: “It’s one of those things which is pretty surreal. It doesn’t always hit until like maybe a few weeks afterwards. You’re like, ‘Oh, David Ornstein literally just walked past me.’
“I think the access that’s provided is great. We’ve got a bit of mentoring, a bit more one-to-one conversation, which I think will be really good in terms of advice and like help me to progress.”
Kwame added: “So the key takeaways have definitely been just put yourself out there and don’t be afraid to shoot that DM.
“You’re going to get a hundred no’s, but if you get that one yes, that could be life changing so definitely just put yourself out there as much as you can.
