UCFB students gain insight into the sports industry through Sky work experience

Two students were fortunate enough to gain quality industry experience at UCFB’s industry partner, Sky.

The two students who undertook a week of work at the global sports media organisation were:

• Redford Elton – BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism
• Lucy Berry – BA (Hons) Football Business and Media

Redford and Lucy were able to gain this wonderful opportunity through UCFB’s partnership with Sky, an organisation where many of our graduates have ended up forging a career.

“I cannot explain enough how much I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there,” said Redford.

“We were allowed to meet people and actually try out a variety of roles throughout Sky, whether it be sports ingest, sports archive, access services and so much more.”

Talking about the incredible experience, Redford said: “Just a few short tube stops from Wembley and the Sky bus took me onto campus, and what a campus it was.

“I made it to the Sky Studios building, where I was in disbelief. So many screens, signs and detail everywhere.

“As the week went on, I got to discover other buildings, such as Sky Cinema and the area where they record Sky News.”

He added: “Regardless of the team I was working with however, I never stopped being amazed. Each team’s tireless work is the reason why Sky is such a juggernaut today.

“Some of the special elements for me were exploring the studios to just quantify how much effort gets put in that you just don’t see, and also the sheer amount of planning that goes into behind the scenes of set production.”

He finished: “It was definitely somewhere I would love to work long term. Everyone here has been so supportive, so helpful, and I found out information about the industry I didn’t know before.”

UCFB’s fantastic partnership with Sky has been extended for a further year, which means many more incredible opportunities for students will be up for grabs, such as this.
