A UCFB sports media alumna has returned to the university since graduating, working as UCFB Wembley’s media and broadcast technician.
Lily Watson studied BA (Hons) Football Business and Media at UCFB before coming back as part of her career in the industry.
As part of her role at UCFB, Lily helps lecturers deliver their programmes on our media degree courses, including:
Speaking about her role, she said: “I also run the studio and help if any students wish to come into the studio and create some content.
“A normal day for me looks like helping lecturers deliver their lessons. That can range from teaching students how to use editing software to hiring out kit.”
She added: “I absolutely love that our students go from having nothing in week one to having a TV show by week 12, which they can use as part of their portfolio.
“The studio allows us to create an atmosphere the students will be able to find in the industry. It’s that industry standard which we aim to achieve.
“Similarly, all the equipment is like what they’d use in a future role at IMG or Sky Sports.
“We train people to go into these places. We want to create the next presenter at Sky Sports, or the next vision mixer, the next director. It starts at the first year of university.
“I love seeing our students do well, going out into the industry and getting jobs with clubs. It’s the best feeling because you know you’ve helped them get there.”
Lily then went on to speak about her time as a student at UCFB.
“Walking across the stage at graduation,” she said, “I couldn’t have thought of a better course for me.
“It was such a welcoming place to come to. Everyone had a love of football in common, so that made it really easy for me.
“Adding onto that, making friends for life. It really was the best opportunity I could ever have taken.”
