Where Are They Now: Matthew Wood – Media and Marketing Officer at Manchester FA

One of UCFB’s graduates has used his sports industry-related degree to pursue a career at one of the many County FAs across the country.

Matthew Wood, who studied at UCFB Manchester, is still in the city he studied, working as media and marketing officer at the Manchester FA.

Matthew studied BA (Hons) Football Business and Marketing with us, and now works alongside UCFB due to our partnership with The Football Association and County FAs thanks to the Certificate of Higher Education in Football Development.

The course offers students a range of work experience opportunities, which Matthew himself took advantage of when he was a student at UCFB.

“Personally, for me, being a big driver, I wouldn’t have had those opportunities if it wasn’t for UCFB,” he said.

“I was on an internship here when I was a student, and again that was a massive help, and I wouldn’t have had that without UCFB having the arrangement with the Manchester FA in the first place.”

Matthew went on to speak about how in addition to the experience, he also gained skills and knowledge from his degree course.

“And the skills I had learned at university, I could then apply them in the practical industry and practice them.

“I guess it’s all worked out in the fact that I’ve been able to apply them and practice those skills while on an internship, and then because I’ve got those skills when I’ve come to go for a full-time job, I’ve proven that I can do that with the Manchester FA.”
