A UCFB graduate is celebrating being named as a sports industry ‘NextGen leader’ for 2024.

Georgia Stevens, who studied BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism at UCFB, has been named as a next generation leader of the sports industry for 2024 by The Sports Industry Group.

The programme, which has run since 2015, provides the 30 successful applicants with extensive training, personal development and networking opportunities across the industry.

A graduate from UCFB’s Global Institute of Sport, Maria Hasler, with her Master’s degree in MSc Digital Marketing and Football Communications, has also been named on the list.

Speaking about the achievement, Georgia said: “It’s already opened so many doors in such a short space of time! It’s quite the accolade to have next to your name and especially at such a young age too.

“Being freelance, one of the toughest things is finding the connections and building your network - I was fortunate that UCFB taught me invaluable networking.

“I’m super excited to get started and develop as a person whilst learning even more about the industry - again, something UCFB has done a great job at already!

“I don’t think I realised the extent of what an achievement it was until now really and it probably won’t properly sink in until the year with the group is done I think!”

When asked about her time at university, she added: “I loved my time at UCFB, it was the perfect place for me to grow and be in at the perfect time.

“The fact that UCFB combined that traditional university teachings with genuine industry expertise and hands-on learning made it a no brainer for me.

“I can’t stress just how much UCFB prepares you for the working environment in sport, by my second year I’d already had work experience at Sky Sports and was in the field working with club media.”

She finished: “Network! Sport is a very tight-knit community, but meeting the right people and learning as much as you can from them is the best way to know where you want to position yourself in that environment.

“Know your strengths, know what you offer and be confident in the fact that there is no other version of you. What you can offer to a business or to an individual is genuinely unique - you just have to get to know what those things are and get comfortable at selling it.

“Be comfortable in your worth and know that with hard work, it’ll fall into place.”
