Lecturer, Sports Broadcasting

Owen is a vastly experienced television editor and producer who has worked with national broadcasters for almost 30 years.

Starting as a NCTJ-qualified reporter, Owen moved from regional newspapers into BBC Sport as a journalist and researcher in 1993. He worked on Match of the Day, Grandstand and Sportsnight along with outside broadcast events such as the Olympic Games and football World Cup.

Owen moved into BBC News as a producer, before becoming senior duty editor and eventually Editor of BBC TV Sportsnews, leading teams of producers in creating award-winning content and bulletins into BBC Breakfast, One, Six and Ten O’clock News, BBC News Channel and BBC World.

He became the BBC’s Global Sports Editor before moving to Sky Sports as their Head of Digital Content where his teams created news content, companion apps and a range of innovative digital properties around Sky Sports’ coverage of a host of different sports.

As well as lecturing for UCFB, Owen is now a freelance producer and media lecturer – delivering video training to the Press Association, working for Sports News Television and as a media trainer for sports figures and administrators on behalf of Capricorn Media.
