What is a Global Ambassador?

GIS Global Ambassadors will be the voice and face of UCFB and GIS as we travel around the world for our Global Sports Summits. GIS Global Ambassadors will be tasked with roles to support UCFB and GIS in the planning and delivery of each summit – this means on-campus and on-location in Miami and Toronto in 2024. The main focus of a Global Ambassador will be to help deliver a world-class event and student experience. In return, UCFB/GIS will cover the cost of the Summit ‘ticket’ for the Global Sports Summit each Global Ambassador has been selected for. Global Ambassadors will need to organise and pay for their own flights and any other associated costs themselves.

In the event that a Global Ambassador is the recipient of a UCFB/GIS scholarship, the funding for the Global Ambassador’s Summit costs will be used from the student’s scholarship fund.

All on-campus UCFB and GIS students are eligible to become a Global Ambassador. As Global Ambassadors will be required to carry out tasks on-campus before and after the Global Sports Summits that they support, this opportunity is not available to online students or alumni.

The 2024 Global Ambassador Programme application window has now closed.

If you pay to attend the Miami Global Sports Summit and are later selected to be a Global Ambassador for the event, you will be refunded your payment. PLEASE NOTE: The Global Ambassadors for the Miami Summit will not be chosen until after the payment deadline for the event.

The 2024 Global Ambassador Programme application window has now closed.

What type of tasks will I be carrying out as a GIS Global Ambassador?

GIS Global Ambassadors can expect to assist with a wide variety of tasks in the preparation and delivery of the Global Sports Summit that they are chosen for. Tasks will be allocated once the selection has been made, however they will be tailored to the strengths and skills of each student as much as is possible. A task list and description of duties will not be communicated ahead of selection – instead we are looking for well-rounded characters who we can allocate suitable tasks to. Those who are selected to be Global Ambassadors will be allocated tasks to assist UCFB/GIS in providing an excellent student experience at the Summits and generally in supporting UCFB/GIS in their aim of becoming world-leaders in sports education.

What type of person are you looking for to be a GIS Global Ambassador?

Just like with any team selection, we are looking for a balance of skills and personalities. Our focus is on finding students with the right attitude as well as high-levels of reliability, proactive in their approach to problem-solving and taking on new tasks and experiences, a willingness to roll their sleeves up and support with difficult situations when they arise, a mature and confident personality who can communicate well with GIS staff, executive guests and partners of GIS, as well as with a large group of travelling student attendees. These are just some of the many traits we will be looking for during the application process.

If I am successful, how much of a contribution will be made by UCFB/GIS towards the Summit costs?

UCFB/GIS will cover the cost of the Summit ticket of each Global Ambassador for the Global Sports Summit they have been selected for. Global Ambassadors will stay at the designated accommodation of the travelling attendee group, chosen by UCFB/GIS. Global Ambassadors will need to organise and pay for their own flights and any other associated costs. Ambassadors will be required to travel on dates chosen by UCFB/GIS.

What does a Summit ticket include?

The Summit ticket covered by UCFB/GIS includes Summit accommodation, live sport tickets, all aspects of Summit conferencing and any organised group transportation. Global Ambassadors will need to fund any other costs themselves such as their flights, visas, daily expenses (in-country travel, food & drink etc.) and any other general costs.

What other costs will be involved with being a Global Ambassador?

Aside from the possibility of any additional costs towards travel and accommodation, Global Ambassadors will need to self-fund all other costs associated with attending the international events, including visas, food, drink, transfers and in-country travel, and general spending whilst at the summit location. A contract will be provided to successful Global Ambassadors to ensure clarity on expectations and duties.

I am a scholarship student – am I eligible to apply to become a Global Ambassador?

In the event that a Global Ambassador is the recipient of a UCFB/GIS scholarship, the funding for the Global Ambassador’s costs will be used from the student’s scholarship fund. Please contact global@ucfb.ac.uk or the UCFB/GIS Scholarships Team if you require details to be clarified.

As a GIS Global Ambassador, will I still get the opportunity to enjoy the content and activities of the Global Sports Summit whilst on-location?

UCFB/GIS will try to ensure that Global Ambassadors will get the opportunity to enjoy as much of the content of the Global Sports Summit as possible, however the priority of the Global Ambassador will be to assist with the delivery and execution of the Summit, and therefore this may lead to them missing some parts of the Summit. The Global Ambassadors will place the delivery of the Summit and the student experience as the top priority of the trip, and work as efficiently and effectively as possible alongside other Global Ambassadors, GIS staff, and in-location staff to ensure the Summit is a success.

One of the best things I have ever done. I really appreciate the opportunity to become Global Ambassador and experience the Australian culture
