No one can deny that Miami is one of the most exciting sports destinations in the US. Host to teams in the four major North American professional leagues – National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB) and National Hockey League (NHL) – Florida’s most populated city is packed full of sports clubs, events and arenas with a long history of success. Below, we’ve put together just a few of the sporting highlights on offer…

The city’s sport precinct is home to basketball, American football, baseball, ice hockey and of course, soccer. Inter Miami CF Stadium is host to the city’s newest professional team, Inter Miami CF. Making their debut in Major League Soccer in March 2020, the club has big plans to transform the club and help to continue the growth of the game in America.

Item 2

The city’s sports precinct would not be complete without basketball team Miami Heat. The Heat have won the NBA championship three times and have been home to some of the sport’s all-time greats, such as LeBron James and Dwayne Wade. Following an agonising loss to the LA Lakers in the 2020 NBA Finals, the Heat will be hoping to go one step further next

Item 4

Miami couldn’t be considered a leading US sports hub without playing host to an NFL franchise. Miami Dolphins compete at the Hard Rock Stadium, and famously completed the NFL’s only ever perfect season in 1972 – winning all 14 of their regular season games, all three of the play-off games and the Super Bowl.

Item 6

From NFL to MLB, Miami Marlins are famed for their victories in the World Series in 1997 and 2003, the former of these being the only time in history a wild card team has won the championship. The 2019 World Series was watched by an average of 14.1 million people worldwide, and is regarded as one of the most competitive leagues in world sport.

Item 8

Miami-based Florida Panthers compete in the NHL, which is the wealthiest sports league in the world aside from the English Premier League. The Panthers have reached the Stanley Cup finals once, in 1996, but are yet to win the sport’s biggest prize.
