Our Wembley Campus men’s and women’s football teams are coming together this week, and have organised a charity match to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The Mixed Team Charity Match will take place at Silver Jubilee Park, with a kick off time of 2pm on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 19.

A lot of hard work from both teams has gone into organising the event, with many UCFB students getting involved.

It is not just the players and coaches helping out on the day, but also a media team, photographers, graphic designers and students from many other courses.

Tickets to the event are a minimum of £2.50, with much more fundraising occurring at the match, including a cake sake and a raffle.

The target amount to raise for Cancer Research UK is £800.

For those unable to attend the event, but wish to contribute to the cause, the teams have set up a JustGiving page here.

Megan Abbott, the captain for Team One on the day, said: “I’m really looking forward to this event taking place to showcase the talent we have at UCFB.

“The team around me have been brilliant at organising the game, and ensuring everything will run smoothly on the day.

“For me, I’m so in awe of everyone engaging with this event - giving up their time to help raise money for charity - it’s amazing.

“Cancer Research UK, the charity we are supporting, do incredible work to help beat cancer sooner, and their research has helped to double cancer survival in the last 40 years in the UK.

“It’s rewarding to know that we could play a small part in helping to save lives, all through playing the beautiful game.”
