The UCFB Wembley Athletic Union enables students to participate in a range of sports including football, basketball, rugby and netball in both a competitive and recreational context.

Through numerous clubs and events, the Athletic Union also provides students with a great opportunity to make friends, support charities and integrate with the local community.

UCFB Wembley Athletic Union teams

Basketball

UCFB basketball started during the second semester of 2018, and currently has over 20 participants training.

The AU entered the basketball team into their first BUCS league competition in 2018/19.

Darts

The UCFB Wembley darts team was formed in 2016 and currently competes in the Harrow Darts League.

The team have had students represent the institution individually in singles tournaments as well as combining both campuses’ darts teams for the Big Weekender.

Gaelic Football

UCFB Gaelic Football competed in the BUCS Gaelic Football South Eastern during their first season (2017/18), finishing 3rd.

The team train on a Monday and compete on a Wednesday.

Men's Football

UCFB Wembley men’s football teams have over 60 students representing UCFB in BUCS.

Training sessions take place every Monday, put on by UCFB coaching students, and fixtures take place on a Wednesday.

Students pay £100 membership which pays for facilities, travel, equipment, affiliation and match day officials.

Netball

Netball started during second semester of 2018, with over 12 participants taking part in training.

The entered the netball team in to their first BUCS league competition in 2018/19.

Rugby

UCFB’s rugby team are currently competing in the BUCS Rugby South Eastern.

The team have over 30 participants training on a Monday and representing in fixtures on a Wednesday.

Women's Football

The women’s football team is currently competing in the BUCS Football South Eastern 3A.

The team train on Monday evenings, led by a coaching student, with matches on Wednesdays.

Athletic Union activities

Sports Day

Designed to introduce new students to each other and to the AU committee members, the event highlights some of the sporting activities that can be enjoyed during a student’s time at UCFB. A number of other fun activities also take place, including a five-a-side football tournament, basketball, squash, rodeo bull and a hungry hippo inflatable.

Intra Mural Sports

Throughout the two academic semesters, IMS Football is run to engage non sporting students at UCFB to play five-a-side football on Wednesday afternoons. Games are advertised through the AU social media accounts and the UCFB Online Hub.

Running Club

The Running Club is designed to improve healthy living and keep students active outside of their studies. These sessions are promoted via the AU social media accounts and the UCFB Online Hub.

Cardio Bootcamp

Cardio Bootcamp is designed to improve healthy living and keep students active outside of their studies. These sessions are promoted via the AU social media accounts and the UCFB Online Hub.

Sport Relief

For the biennial charity event from Comic Relief, the UCFB Athletic Union set a series of challenges for staff, students and the community to get involved with.

Trials

Students who wish to participate in individual sport activities are also encouraged to compete and will be supported by UCFB to enter competitions throughout their time here. Details of Athletic Union trials at UCFB will be are yet to be released for 2019.
