This degree covers all aspects of the wide ranging international events industry and provides opportunities to learn about both stadium and event management in the country’s largest and most high profile sporting arena.
All aspects of international events management are studied including event marketing, organisation and planning, financing and risk management with several live events organised by students during their studies in order to gain direct live events experience.
The opportunity to study at such a globally recognised venue ensures that you will graduate with the expertise, experience, and network to pursue a successful career in stadium and events management.
The degree will provide an insight into the managerial and business facets of delivering a safe and customer focused event experience. This includes exploring various event operations and their impact upon delivering a successful and profitable event, whilst understanding the implications of the legalities and regulations.

University Campus of Football Business is an embedded college of the University of East London. All graduates will receive a degree from the University of East London.
This module introduces you to the management, marketing and operations of international sporting stadiums with a key focus on how stadiums are maximised for optimum usage across a calendar year. Such activities take place on both match and non-matchdays and rely on a wide variety of stakeholders providing different products and services to varying audiences. The increasing appeal of sporting stadiums for conference, meetings and events activity is investigated along with consideration of both financial and management strategies to turn the stadium into a profit-making entity. Your assessment on this module will allow you to increase your knowledge of the operations and promotional strategies of global stadiums incorporating external research and industry content.

This module introduces you to the international events industry and its many different markets and stakeholders. You will investigate how the events industry has developed during recent decades and understand its significant contribution to the UK and international economy. Industry guest speakers will contribute to the module offering a practical viewpoint of working within this demanding and creative industry. Assessment on the module will allow you to understand both the variety of different events held at commercial and unusual venues within the UK and the management of these by commercial event agencies. You will also gain knowledge of the key skills required by event managers and the many different careers open to students entering the international events industry.

In order for you to achieve your university and future workplace goals, you need to be aware of a number of personal qualities and behaviours that can impact your ability to succeed. It is also important that you understand the industry and societal context in which you plan to work. This module aims to introduce you to personal and professional factors relevant to employment in the sport industry, and to enhance your awareness of the industrial landscape. Additionally, it will support you in developing some essential academic skills for higher education (such as academic writing and referencing). The module will introduce you to a wide range of perspectives, philosophies, and principles of critical and ethical thinking which will equip you with the competencies and confidence to achieve your academic and employability goals.

This module seeks to develop an awareness of and an understanding of the source and purpose of accounting information to organisational stakeholders – both internal and external. You will be introduced to both strands of accounting, that being Financial and Management accounting and their constituent audiences’ needs. With reference to Financial Accounting, you will be introduced to the different statements or ‘accounts’ included within the annual financial report produced by companies, their differences and the information they convey to users. Through the use of case studies, you will be taught how to draft and analyse these statements. With reference to Management Accounting, you will be introduced to accounting principles and frameworks which can be used to aid management, when it comes to decision making, planning and controlling organisational activities. You will also be introduced to the various sources of finance and their related implications to the organisation.

This module aims to introduce you to the principles of marketing through a series of lectures and seminars. The module will provide you with an understanding of marketing models, concepts and theories. Marketing is a business philosophy that places the customer at the heart of all its activities (customer centric) and regards satisfying customer needs and wants for the purpose of building sustainable competitive advantages. You will explore the application of traditional marketing concepts and evolving technologies which impact the sports industry. In a continually disruptive environment, marketing is all about creating customer value and building profitable customer relationships. It is no different in the world of sport and football.

This module introduces you to the importance of Human Resources to the international events industry and the significant role of teamworking and resource management within such a people-based industry. Module lectures and seminars will consider management and leadership techniques used to create and employ effective people management both in and around international events, with guest speakers contributing to the module by giving a topical and frontline viewpoint of life in such a demanding industry. Assessment on the module will allow you to understand both the variety of different stakeholders within the UK and international events industry along with the importance of role allocation and supervision. You will also gain knowledge of the key skills required by event managers and the many different careers open to students entering the international events industry.

The module examines stadium safety issues and why stadium managers need to maximise sources of income from a range of small- and large-scale events including sporting, retail, hospitality, conferencing and banqueting. It will provide you with contextual experiences of a range of stadium management issues that include stakeholder management, stadium safety and operations and developing income streams. You are required to analyse key components of stadium management and will apply your learning to contextual assessment.

This module aims to introduce you to the practices and applications of digital marketing through a series of workshops. Appropriate use of digital marketing to engage and promote the sports brand. You will be expected to apply their previous knowledge form the theory of digital marketing module to further benefit their skill set. You will be introduced to a range of online tools for analysis and implementation of your online presence. The module will include the formulation of enhanced digital marketing techniques used to build customer relationships and also give students an understanding of how businesses create, implement and measure digital marketing campaigns. Digital marketing is becoming a core competency for many organisations leading them to enhance customer relations and achieve long-term business goals.

Following on from your previous training regarding personal qualities and behaviours that can impact your ability to succeed, this module focuses on developing your practical skills relevant to a workplace environment. This module will ask you to apply your knowledge and personal skillset to problem-based learning scenarios, and live projects. You will learn project management skills, develop your personal pragmatism, and enhance your industry-based interests and understanding. You will work both as part of a team and independently, developing essential aspects of your emotional, social, and professional self.

The negotiation and winning of contracts is fundamental in industry. In an increasingly competitive market the ability to attract, secure and deliver contracts to promoters, artists and organisations alike is paramount in driving core industry revenues. The module will examine negotiating and securing contracts, developing relationships with client needs, with reference to resolving legal disputes without recourse to litigation. This module will draw upon industry partnerships to bring to life the negotiation and securement of contracts.

This module will facilitate you in the understanding, creation and effective delivery of a range of events in a stadium venue. The module will enable you to understand the principles, frameworks and regulations that surround the implementation of an event in a stadium environment and will investigate the logistical, marketing and resource challenges associated with such events. Through applied and experiential learning and assessment on the module, you will gain a deeper understanding of the range of skills required within the events industry and how to apply these in a live environment with peers.

As a practitioner in your discipline you will be required to engage in evidence-based practice. This module supports your ability to become an evidence-based practitioner by providing you with an introduction to the processes involved in conducting research within your discipline and equipping you with the skills and knowledge to be able to critically analyse the work of others. This module will build on skills and knowledge which you will have acquired throughout your course so far, and has been designed to prepare you for conducting your own independent project as part of the Professional Project module at Level 6. Specifically, this module will enable you to gain an applied understanding of the research process. This will involve identifying a contemporary industry-relevant issue; developing project aims and objectives; understanding reflexivity and the role you play in the design and execution of a project; understanding methodologies and different methods of data collection, analysis, and interpretation; and appreciating the importance of ethical practice. The delivery of this module will be facilitated by your engagement in a research project to investigate contemporary industry-relevant issues.

This course aims to introduce you to the principles of management and leadership through a series of lectures and seminars. The course will provide you with an understanding of key management and leadership models, concepts, and theories. Managing projects and team leadership are integral to everyday life and work. Learning the basic skills of how to plan, organise, lead, and control the quality of work will prepare you for fulfilling work and a rewarding career. You will develop project management skills whilst both analysing challenging organisational situations and working on a group project. In doing so, you will learn about team dynamics and methods for positively influencing operational efficiency and effectiveness. You will develop a number of transferrable skills including that of decision making, motivating others, effective communication and situational leadership.

This module aims to provide you with a theoretical and applied understanding of planning, organising and operating a live event. Special events in the modern sports, hospitality and entertainment industries take place in a wide variety of arenas and contexts (i.e. different sports/activities such as football, rugby, ultimate fighting championship, event launches, after dinner speaking and awards ceremonies). There are considerable logistical elements and potential challenges which must be considered in the planning and delivery process. This module provides you with theoretical knowledge of event planning and management which is subsequently applied to the experiential assessment of you organising and delivering a live charitable fundraising event with fellow students to be held at a stadium.

Following on from your previous training regarding personal qualities and behaviours that can impact your ability to succeed, this module focuses on practical application of that knowledge during a workplace visit. Until now, your modules have provided learning opportunities about the industry and societal context in which you plan to work. This module aims to introduce you to a workplace environment. Doing so will allow you to enhance your awareness of the industrial landscape through experience. This module creates a space for you to apply competencies developed in your modules to date to a real-life setting, leading to experiential and reflective learning.

This module will enable you to investigate and analyse a wide variety of contemporary issues affecting the international events industry in the modern day, linked to the use of comprehensive event management theory applicable at this level of study. Such issues currently include the threat of international terrorism, impacts and consequences of COVID-19, emerging technologies used within the international industry, development and promotion of new international event destinations, digital and social media marketing, and new career paths open to international event management professionals. Module lectures and seminars will be supported by the use of various industry guest speakers in giving topical and frontline viewpoints of life in such a demanding industry. Assessment on the module will require you to critically analyse recent developments in the international events industry and investigate their substantial impacts on a wide range of stakeholders being affected by these. You will also gain knowledge of the key strategic skills required by global event managers and the many different careers open to students entering the international events industry.

This module provides you with the opportunity to synthesise the knowledge and skills you will have developed during the course of your studies and independently design, develop and execute an individual professional project. This project aims to investigate an original contemporary industry-relevant issue and will be a platform through which you will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, understanding and expertise you have developed in your discipline thus far. It is expected that your project output will contribute to industry practice and/or academic and practitioner knowledge. To achieve this, you will investigate an original contemporary industry-relevant issue and make judgments on the basis of sound evidence and therefore, the project will be research- and inquiry-based. The project will be directly relevant to your course and will be produced and disseminated in the format best suited to the project aims and to developing a career of your choice. The project will build on the L5 Research Methods assessment and you will be working closely with a project supervisor who will provide guidance and support throughout your project.
