Clearing is an opportunity for students to make sure they get a place on a degree programme that excites them at an institution that will help them achieve all of their goals. It is not limited to those who did not manage to obtain a place at their first choice institution.
Below, UCFB Etihad Campus student Jess Hamill (pictured below), who’s studying BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing, explains how she found the Clearing process…
What circumstances led you to Clearing?
I had initially applied to do business management at a couple of other institutions, however as results day got closer, I wasn’t excited to go into higher education at all and I knew that I should have been! So I went to an apprenticeship fair, and UCFB had a stall there. So I went over and spoke to them and had a look, just out of curiosity, as I had never heard of it before. It completely fascinated me! I went away from that day and couldn’t stop thinking about attending UCFB. So from then, I knew that I just had to try and get a place on Clearing day!
How did you find out about the Clearing process at UCFB?
I found out about the clearing process by getting the number from the website and ringing them up! There is also an online chat on the website which is really useful.
How supportive and helpful was the Clearing process at UCFB?
The clearing process ran very smoothly for me. The team was friendly and helped me relax. It was a quick and easy process and I felt supported all along. I felt reassured on the phone that I was in safe hands and I was excited about what the future was going to bring.
If someone has just found out about UCFB through Clearing and only has a few weeks to plan the move, what top tips would you give them?
Mine was very last minute too, so I didn’t manage to visit the accommodation beforehand. However, I rang up the accommodation team and they arranged a place for me at the accommodation where other first years would be staying! I then connected with the people I was going to be moving in with via Facebook and it makes you feel a lot more at ease and comfortable having already chatted to people who are in the same position as you.
How has your time at UCFB been so far?
I have absolutely loved my time at UCFB so far, the amount of opportunities we are provided with is outstanding. I have had the chance to see numerous guest speakers in the industry, for example, David Moyes and Sam Allardyce and been educated about the options of careers in football from the wide range of extra-curricular activities provided! I have met amazing friends and been able to greatly expand my network! My piece of advice would be to take every opportunity that is given to you and make the most of it.
If someone is offered a place at UCFB through Clearing and has to make a decision quickly, what would your advice be to them?
Definitely take a deep breath and have some time to think, it is a massive step which can change your future. However, if it feels right and you really want it, which is how I felt, then just go for it! If you’re passionate about something, then you are more likely to excel in it. So just take a minute to think about what you really want and trust in yourself that you are going to make the right decision.
