Global Institute of Sport (GIS), the postgraduate arm of UCFB, are delighted to announce a new studentship with EFL club Accrington Stanley FC that will provide four lucky students with a nine-month placement at the club, which they will complete alongside their Master’s degree.
Each student will adopt the role of Coach Analyst across several age groups within the Academy, working with experienced coaches to deliver the set curriculum, lead individual and full-team coaching sessions, and utilise coding to produce objective video and statistical content, presenting their findings.
Successful students will be enrolled on either the MSc Football Coaching & Analysis or MSc Performance Analysis in Football programme, which they can be completing full-time or part-time. The placement will be scheduled around lectures and seminars, and will enable students to work closely with ASFC’s Head of Coaching and Lead Phase Coaches across the Foundation Phase, Youth Development Phase and Professional Development Phase of development.
Commenting on the partnership, GIS President Sharona Friedman said: “I am delighted to commence this unique partnership, which embodies GIS’ commitment to practical experience and employability. It is a brilliant opportunity at a brilliant club, and will provide our students with an unparalleled insight into the coaching and analysis sector.”
Duncan Fearnhead, Academy Manager at the club, added: “At Accrington Stanley, our Vision is to be the best Academy in our Category. Part of that Vision is to help develop young people for the future and that includes supporting the development of players and staff. By partnering with GIS we believe we can provide valuable industry experience alongside the academic pathway, which in the modern game is a close to perfect blend.
“We feel this a fantastic opportunity and we have had demonstrable success through this model already, with a GIS student going on to take a senior position within our Academy following a studentship opportunity.”
