We were delighted to host a new premier event at Old Trafford Football Stadium for our Manchester Campus coaching students this month.

On Wednesday, October 11, the UCFB Sports Coaching and Performance Conference was held at the Evolution Suite at Old Trafford, with a whole host of guests and networking opportunities for our students.

In the morning, the conference included an alumni panel, which featured graduates such as:

  • Jemma Entwistle – PGA Coach at Manchester United Women
  • Aiden Brooks – U16s City Selects Coach at Manchester City
  • Jordan Tattersall – Lead Scouting Analyst – SG1 at PGMOL
  • Wesley McGrath – Founder and Owner at Kick Off Football Academy, Milton Keynes
  • Adam Cooper – First Team Opposition Analyst at Bolton Wanderers

The students got the opportunity to hear their stories about studying at UCFB, and their advice on how to best use the opportunities available towards their future careers in sports coaching.

The morning also saw the students treated to an insight into VAR and into Hawkeye Innovations, and the wide variety of careers available for coaching and performance students in those fields of the football industry.

The final guest of the conference, the afternoon’s keynote speaker, was John Murtough, director of football at Manchester United.

Students enjoyed hearing about his career, the highs and lows of football and finding out more about the role of a director of football.

John stayed behind after the talk to meet with students individually and answer any questions they had about the industry.

The final activity for our students was the exciting exhibition room, where many of our partners and different organisations got to show our students the work opportunities available to them while they study their degrees at UCFB.

These included several Football League and National League clubs, such as Port Vale, Rochdale and Stockport County, offering our students valuable experience at such a high level at an early part of their coaching career.

Other organisations offering work opportunities included the Manchester FA, VIDA Football and Camp America, which allows our students to study in the United States over summer between academic years.

A stand was also giving students advice about potential postgraduate study at UCFB’s Global Institute of Sport, which offers Master’s degrees worldwide focusing on the sports industry.
