Any excuse for a day off work is great, but a day to celebrate Australia and everything that the country has to offer is an amazing reason to have a bank holiday.
On January 26th every year, Australians break from the hustle and bustle to have a party. A party to celebrate the cultural melting pot that is Australia, and a party to recognise the opportunity and lifestyle that people can have Down Under.
Across the country, friends and family get together for a traditional Aussie barbecue, go for a swim and have a drink.
Each year, some of the day’s highlights include the Triple J Hottest 100 and the Sydney Harbour Australia Day parade. The Hottest 100 is a countdown of the top 100 public-voted songs of the year; the playlist starts early in the morning and the top song of the year usually airs late in the afternoon. As for the parade, this spreads across Sydney Harbour and concludes with a vast firework display over the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
Fortunately for UCFB students attending the Global Summit in Australia, they will be in Sydney for Australia Day and will have the unique opportunity to experience the city on this day of celebration.
The area surrounding the harbour will be bouncing with excitement, whilst all of Sydney’s landmarks will host exclusive Australian themed celebrations for the day. If the schedule permits, students should grab the opportunity to celebrate with the locals and get into the spirit of Australia Day. My tip would be to visit a park alongside the harbour, enjoy the parade and fireworks show, and maybe make yourself a Vegemite sandwich!
The opportunity to be in Australia on Australia Day will be a real privilege for the Summit attendees, and it will only add to what looks set to be an incredible Global Summit.
