With a journalism degree and steady job at a radio station in her home country of Portugal, Olga Monteiro decided she wanted to pursue what she really loved – football.

Marrying her degree alongside her passion ensured football journalism was the path she wanted to follow, and that’s where GIS came in. After looking around Europe Olga decided that England, the home of the Premier League, was the place where she wanted to chase this dream.

But she also wanted to know more about the industry as a whole, not just media. Olga wanted to learn more about UEFA, FIFA, marketing and the football consumer. The MSc Football Business programme at UCFB Wembley was just what Olga was after.

And despite getting the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and visit St. George’s Park – the home of the England national teams – Olga says it was the “human part”, her lecturers and the teaching aspect that she really enjoyed the most.

Olga said: “When you come from a different country, the structures of what you learn are very different. GIS gave me that help, even just speaking 1-2-1, something which I haven’t found in any other place that I’ve studied.”
