As they look to build a career within sports media, two UCFB students have set up their own website to showcase their talents as well as that of other students.

BA (Hons) Football Business & Media students Nick Pratt and George Clayton have established 24/7 Football, a website that provides all the latest news and talking points about all clubs across England’s top four divisions. To coincide with the website, the duo have also set up their own YouTube channel as another way of engaging football fans and widening their audience.

Highlighting the reason for launching the website and YouTube channel, George said: “We thought by doing this it would help towards our degrees and would also give us the opportunity to create a platform that in the long run could turn into a full-time career. We bought some camera equipment and set up a website.”

Nick and George’s website actively encourages fellow UCFB students to get involved with writing for the platform. Currently with 11 other students contributing regularly to their website, George spoke of why it is important to them that other students can contribute.

He said: “We were keen to get UCFB students involved to give them the opportunity of work experience. As fellow students ourselves we know just how important it is to obtain as much experience as possible. They write articles based on daily football news; from transfer speculation to managerial appointments and sackings.”

He added: “Having the students on board has helped us out massively as without them we wouldn’t be able to provide as much content as we do. We hope in return that we provide them with a platform to gain experience to take into the work place, and any content they produce can be used towards their portfolio.”

Nick and George both went on to speak of their future plans for the website and how they hope to turn it into a full-time career upon graduating.

George said: “The ambition has been to try and make a career out of the website and YouTube channel from the start and we are hoping that beyond UCFB it’s a success and that can happen.”

Nick added: “If it gets to the stage where it doesn’t turn into a full-time career then by having the experience of setting up a platform, as well as producing content and creating videos, we will hopefully be able to get a job in sports media.”
