One of our Second Year students has been appointed as the media manager for a National League North club, partway through his studies at UCFB.

Rhys Jones, a Second Year BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism student, has taken on the new role of media manager at Curzon Ashton FC.

Rhys has gained much experience during his 18-month-long placement at Curzon Ashton, as a member of their media team.

Conducting such activities as social media, editing and online journalism at the club, Rhys has impressed so much that he was granted this recent promotion.

In his new role, Rhys will be running a group of around half a dozen media volunteers on matchdays, as well as maintaining a strong relationship between the club’s board and the media.

He will also continue in some of his previous duties, including working on the club’s Twitter and Instagram accounts, along with writing match reports.

Alongside this new role, as well as his university studies, Rhys also writes for VAVEL, covering Manchester United for the website on a part-time basis.

He also writes for Manchester United blog website ‘Stretty News’ and has also been published in the Non-League Paper.

Rhys said: “I've worked at Curzon for the last year or so, and it's nice to be recognised for my work and being offered the promotion is just really good!

“UCFB is really what you make of it. They put a lot of pressure on out-of-university activity (such as getting on your placements) and as I've done this, it's been rather enjoyable!

“Keep plugging away, it won't all come at your feet and you really have to keep your eyes open for opportunities and put yourself about a bit.”
