UCFB alumna Alisha Henry joined us to talk to students about her role as a chief operating officer for a Football League club.

Alisha, who studied BA (Hons) Football Business and Media at our original campus located at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor, now works as the COO at League Two side Barrow AFC.

She came back to our new and expanded Manchester Campus to talk to students about her time at UCFB and her role at Barrow during a premier event at Old Trafford Football Stadium.

Talking about her role, she said: “I run the day-to-day business of Barrow AFC on the site in Barrow, so that’s making sure we get games on and looking after a team underneath me.

“The second part of my job is dealing with all the players’ contracts, writing them up and making sure the players get paid their bonuses and wages.”

When asked about her time at UCFB, she said: “When I first joined I was set on working in media, but it guided me to a very different path and led me to the operations side.

“I was in the second year, so UCFB was very much in its infancy and new.

“It’s a fantastic platform, and you can see the people coming out of the university who are working in sport, and it gives students that opportunity.”

She added: “I would advise anyone who wants to work in sport to go to UCFB. It’s a fantastic starting point.

“UCFB has grown and I think it’s only going to get bigger.

“Working alongside clubs is going to help those clubs massively in terms of interns, staff and helping people get a step into football.”
