Media student Nick Emms has been gaining valuable writing experience for the well-respected Chelsea fan site Absolute Chelsea.

Absolute Chelsea was created in 2015 with the aim of keeping Blues fans around the world updated with all of the club’s news.

As a Chelsea fan himself, Nick was delighted when the creators of the website liked his portfolio work that he submitted and offered him the chance to write for them on a regular basis.

Speaking of his role writing about his favourite club, Nick said: “I’d known of Absolute Chelsea since it was founded but never imagined I’d be writing for them myself. It’s the place I went for all the Chelsea news, which is crazy thinking about it because now I am writing the news.”

He added: “My official role is as an editor. I write about all news linked with the club, and aim to produce between three and five articles a day. The job is very rewarding as I get to see fans interact with the articles.”

Having just finished the first year of his BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism degree programme at UCFB Wembley, Nick spoke of what the modules taught him and how the opportunities provided by UCFB have already vastly improved his writing capabilities.

Nick said: “I have learnt a lot in my degree this year and have been able to take it into the role at Absolute Chelsea. We studied writing techniques at the start of the year where I learnt how to write professional news stories. I also had the opportunity to go to games such as Wycombe Wanderers and West Ham U21s with UCFB which has helped me improve my written match reports and in turn benefitted me.”

Nick went on to speak of his dreams for the future and how he believes his work with Absolute Chelsea can provide a stepping stone for his career path.

He added: “In the future I’d love to work for a football club so writing for a club based website is great. Working for Chelsea would be the absolute dream. At the moment it is all about building up experience and making contacts in the game and this is a fantastic way to do that.”
