Away from the traditional 11-a-side game, BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism student James Bingham has been undertaking valuable work experience for the Manchester Futsal media team.

After helping to co-found the UCFB sports media team and seeing the work that he had done on various different social media platforms, Manchester Futsal’s club director approached James asking if he would like to cover their games.

Manchester Futsal are one of the most prominent and established futsal clubs in the country and are based at the Manchester Velodrome, which makes up part of the UCFB Etihad Campus.

Describing the role he’s been playing for over the past year, James said: “My role is mainly based behind the camera and producing creative content for the club’s social media platforms. This includes filming matches, creating graphics, filming and editing short entertainment videos and most recently producing live streams that are broadcast onto the club’s Facebook page.”

James went on to speak of how Manchester Futsal have allowed him to have a free reign within the club’s media department and test out a variety of his skills to see what works in the industry and what doesn’t. He said: “Manchester Futsal have introduced me to a young but quickly developing sport, and to be involved in the growth of that sport within the UK is amazing. Being given a blank canvas and the ability to express my own ideas is my favourite part of the placement.”

He added: “Working for Manchester Futsal has really fuelled my desire to work within the media industry, in particular, the creative side of it. No matter what the sport is, there are stories to be told, and to be able to capture these stories and share them with an audience is a hard feeling to beat and something I can see myself doing for a very long time.”
