One UCFB Etihad Campus student is complementing his studies with a part-time sales role at a leading League One club.

Jay Karabel was offered the role of sales executive intern at Oldham Athletic following a tough but successful interview with the chief executive and website editor at Boundary Park.

The BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing student landed a three day a week, plus match day, role with the Latics at the beginning of the year, and is now well and truly getting stuck into his new and exciting role.

The job sees him liaising with prospective sponsorship and hospitality clients to help meet the club’s sales targets. In his time at the club so far, Jay has also been learning his way around Oldham’s CRM system and their database to generate leads – both essential skills in sales and business.

Jay, who recently won the UCFB Sports Entrepreneur Award at UCFB Etihad Campus, landed the role in just his first semester as a student. His CV now already shows the vital work experience he’s gaining at Oldham even before he completes the first year of his degree.

A determined Jay said: “I hope to continue bringing new ideas I learn from my UCFB degree course and its extensive Complementary Curriculum to the commercial team at Oldham Athletic, and also learn the vital skills required to be successful in the commercial side of the football industry.”

He added: “I am extremely happy to have been given such an opportunity so early into my time at UCFB. I believe UCFB’s approach to studying is the perfect balance between the emphasis on your degree, but also the focus on employability, work experience and networking.”
