As a menacing Manchester United side walk out at West Ham United’s London Stadium on Sunday, several UCFB students will have the best seats in the house.
Working in a variety of roles around the stadium, the UCFB Wembley students will be responsible for ensuring the match, their first of the season at the East London club, is as enjoyable as possible for the close family and friends of first team players.
Commenting on the role, Harry Forbes, a BA (Hons) Sports Business & Sports Law student, said: “’I’m really looking forward to working at the game and West Ham throughout the season as a Family Liaison Officer. The role helps towards looking after the players’ families and friends throughout the duration of a match day. As an aspiring football agent this will give me great insight into the care required when looking after players and their families.”
Luke Godfrey, a BA (Hons) International Football Business student, will also be working as a Family Liaison Officer throughout the season. Comparing the role to other industry experience, he said: “I have worked at two football clubs before and there is always a different feeling in terms of the club, its fans and history, but to work for West Ham United who have been in the Premier League for a while and a team that is on a growing commercial footing, is exciting.”
He added: “Some clubs do not invest in operating such a large Supporter Liaison team, but to see West Ham do so shows that they are trying to do everything to be ahead of the game when it comes to fan engagement on match day.”
While David Moyes’ side are the underdogs heading into the game, their strong start to the season, and momentum from last season’s record-breaking campaign, will give the Hammers confidence they can defy the odds – even against a certain Christiano Ronaldo.
Predicting the result on the day, Harry was cautiously optimistic: “I certainly don’t think it will be a boring game; it’s two attacking-minded teams squaring off. My prediction is a 2-2 draw.”
