A group of UCFB and GIS students have joined forces with a non-league club in Manchester and led a marketing campaign to push up the numbers of season tickets sold for the 2023-24 season.

The students had a meeting with the chief executive of FC United of Manchester, currently in the Northern Premier League, after the opportunity came up on UCFB JobTeaser.

The students come from an array of courses at UCFB and GIS, including:

After the meeting with the club, the students split into two groups for the campaign; one focusing on a poster, whilst the other group worked on a video.

One of the students involved, Lucy Berry, said: “Alex and Nathan created the poster and the rest of us worked on a short video.

“The poster has featured on their social media and the video has been mailed to club members and community contacts and will be appearing on the club website.”

As of the start of July, following the success of the campaign, the club had already sold more than 500 season tickets for the upcoming season.

Lucy added: “I think that it's very important to take on work experience opportunities like this one at FC United while studying at UCFB, to make use of the great contacts available to you at the university whilst also gaining some practical experience and adding to your CV.

“The best advice I can give to someone wanting to work in the sports industry is to actively seek out opportunities to gain experience and always ask questions because people in the industry are happy to help out young people that want to learn new skills and gain experience working in sport.”
