Last weekend, UCFB Etihad Campus Head of Academics Gerald Griggs had three papers cited in Ofsted’s Curriculum Review for PE.

The report, which is published around every three years, documents the contemporary landscape of PE in England. Summarizing the key changes to the subject in recent years, it referenced Gerald’s ‘For sale – primary school physical education. £20 per hour or nearest offer’, ‘Primary physical education subject leadership: along the road from in-house solutions to outsourcing’ and ‘Physical education from the sidelines: pre-service teachers’, to support Ofsted’s findings.

As one of the most highly respected reports in the industry, the references to Gerald’s papers demonstrate the extent to which his work, which feeds directly into UCFB’s BA (Hons) Physical Education programme, has influenced and shaped the sector.

Gerald said: “Ofsted reviews on single subjects do not happen often so they are important documents when they occur. It’s great to see that Ofsted are committed to underpinning their views with evidence and I’m delighted that papers I have written have helped inform that view.”

He added:  “As academics in Higher Education we should aspire to add to knowledge and make an impact and being cited by Ofsted in this way demonstrates both.”
