UCFB student Hasnain Mohammed rubbed shoulders with football royalty when he took on the role of a marketing assistant at the Northwest Football Awards.

The awards are an annual event which showcases the success of those achieving football excellence, both on and off the pitch, within the north west of England. This year the event was held at Old Trafford and was attended by around 550 guests, including high profile guests Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville.

Commenting on how the chance to get involved with the Northwest Football Awards came about and why it appealed to him, Hasnain, a BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing student, said: “I acquired the work experience through an advert from UCFB. The main reason I went for the experience was because I was excited about working with major football clubs and being in contact with them.”

Hasnain’s role as a marketing assistant meant he was completing tasks in the lead up to the event, as well as duties on the day itself.

Describing his role in further detail, Hasnain said: “My work mainly focused around contacting clubs throughout the summer and trying to retrieve information from them regarding the awards. I had to get nomination names for players and community clubs.”

He added: “On one of the judging days I was also tasked with assisting the main director and making key notes from the judge’s feedback. On the actual night of the event I was in charge of all of the social media accounts and I had to follow the event and keep the twitter followers updated.”

Adding how the experience has benefitted him, Hasnain added: “My work experience has definitely allowed me to put the skills acquired from my degree programme into action and to gain different experiences in a number of fields such as marketing, dealing with high profile clients and also in event management.”

Finishing on what he learnt from his time at the awards and how the experience will help him going forward, Hasnain said: “The most important thing was that it has opened so many doors for me and given me an opportunity to develop a connection with some big contacts in the football industry. I want to use the contacts that I have developed to gain more experience in the industry and in the long term hopefully they will help me to fulfil my career aspirations of working as a marketing or commercial director at a major football club.”
