At UCFB, we’re delighted to announce the headline guest speakers for this year’s UCFB Wembley Taster Days are internationally-acclaimed football managers, Alex McLeish and Chris Powell.

Through a close partnership with the League Managers Association (LMA), UCFB has been able to secure the appearances of the vastly experienced duo to provide applicants with a first-hand insight into the world of elite sport.

Alex McLeish

Scottish Football Hall of Famer, Alex McLeish had a playing career spanning over 500 matches, including 493 for Aberdeen during the most successful period in their history under Sir Alex Ferguson. With 77 caps for Scotland, McLeish played in three consecutive World Cups in 1982, 1986 and 1990.

Since hanging up his boots, McLeish has managed over 800 matches for teams including Rangers, Scotland, Birmingham City, Aston Villa and Genk. This glittering management career to date includes a domestic treble in his first full season in charge at Rangers, followed by a domestic cup double the following year and the accolade of being the first manager to guide a Scottish club out of the group stages of the UEFA Champions League since 1993. Having enjoyed great success for the Scottish Premiership giants, McLeish went on to manage his country in 2007, finishing with an impressive win percentage of 70% before going on to bring silverware to Birmingham City in the form of the memorable 2011 League Cup.

Alex McLeish will be speaking at the UCFB Wembley Taster Day on Monday 22nd February.

Chris Powell

Former left back Chris Powell played over 650 professional games in a career that spanned 23 years and included big clubs such as Derby Country, Charlton Athletic, West Ham United, Watford and Leicester City as well as the England national team. During this high profile playing career, Powell was Chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association for five years, helping to represent his fellow players on key issues affecting the beautiful game.

Starting with a brief caretaker spell in charge at Leicester City, Powell’s management career has now spanned over 200 games for Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town. During his League One title winning season at the helm for Charlton Athletic, Powell was names LMA League One Manager of the Year in 2012, voted for by his fellow managers.

Chris Powell will be speaking at the UCFB Wembley Taster Day on Tuesday 23rd February.

All UCFB Wembley 2016 undergraduate applicants have been invited to the Taster Days, which will provide an insight into living, working and studying within the heart of the sport and events industries at UCFB Wembley, inside Wembley Stadium.
