UCFB is delighted to announce that former England and Southampton midfielder Matt Le Tissier will be speaking at the UCFB Future Leaders in Football and Sport Conference at St George’s Park in February.

Le Tissier, who is now a regular pundit on Sky Sports, will speak to students about his playing career on the south coast and his move into the media.

Open to all third year and Masters students, the conference – set to take place on Thursday 20th February – will bring together some of the UK’s figureheads from the football industry to inspire students and explore solutions in sports business. Further names will be confirmed in the coming weeks and tickets for the conference are available via the link at the bottom of this page.

Le Tissier scored 209 times in 540 appearances for Southampton during a 16-year career dedicated to the Saints. A St Mary’s (and former Dell) icon, ‘Le Tis’ was voted by fans as the clubs greatest ever player.

Making his debut in 1986, Le Tissier was named PFA Young Player of the Year in 1990 after scoring 24 goals in the league and cup. Despite being one of the most technically gifted players of the early Premier League years, where his spectacular long-range efforts were regular features in goal of the year competitions, Le Tissier’s omission from the 1998 World Cup squad signalled the end of his England career where he earned eight caps.

Fittingly, Le Tis scored the last ever goal at The Dell before the Saints moved to St. Mary’s Stadium against Arsenal, which also turned out to be his last goal for the club, in May 2001.
