We recently sat down with UCFB Etihad Campus SU president Jamie Bradley, a BA (Hons) Sports Business & Coaching student, to discuss his favourite bits about UCFB, advice to prospective students, and the role of the Students’ Union. Here’s what he had to say…
What is your favourite aspect of UCFB, and why?
My favourite aspect of UCFB is that it’s a sport specific institution. You’re surrounded by like-minded people who share common interests. This means you’re able to build relationships quicker and help is always available if needed.
What is your advice on how to best utilise the Executive Guest Speaker Series and work experience opportunities on offer to students?
Don’t be shy. That’s probably the best advice I can give to someone. UCFB do a great job of offering us qualifications, training courses and guest speakers which students at other institutions don’t get the chance of having. Go along, see what it’s all about then if that specific course or speaker doesn’t relate to what you want to achieve or interest you, at least you’ve gone and had a look.
What advice would you give to someone looking to study at UCFB?
Look at the pros and cons of all your options. There’s always going to be one institution that inspires you more than the others. For me, it was UCFB as it offers you all the extras in the Employment & Enrichment programmes and was completely sport specific. Choose the one that fits you best.
Please tell us about your role as UCFB Etihad Campus SU President. What does this involve?
The role involves many different aspects. However, the most important is getting the students’ views and ideas heard by those who make the decisions at UCFB. Having a seat on the board of governors and the student council allows me to work with staff to try to find the solutions to all the questions and queries students have.
What role does the SU play in life at UCFB?
The SU has some part to play in everything student related at UCFB. Whether that be academic, social or pastoral, the SU will always be looking out for the students’ best interests. We need everyone to work with us so we can make their student experience something to remember.
How can a student get involved in the SU?
There are many different roles that the SU offer and there is a vote every year. If you’re wanting to get involved midway through the term, there’s always room for help and we’ll welcome anyone who can assist in the overall delivery of what we’re trying to achieve.
