For many pursuing a career in sport, one of the main aims is to either watch, or even better, work at a FIFA World Cup; the pinnacle of football for any football fan. Well, this year in Qatar, UCFB and GIS were proud to see so many of our students, staff and alumni out in the Middle East working at the tournament.

Lewis Rice, Membership and Operations Manager at The Football Association, spent a month in Qatar with the England team.

“Words cannot describe how privileged I feel to have played my part in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” he said. “18 months of hard work to ensure England fans have the best experience possible."

"It’s clear to see how much the squad appreciate England Supporters Travel Club members, who travelled in their numbers to support the team. Unfortunately football involves winning and losing, however this tournament was a great success for all those making it happen."

BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing graduate, Saad Wadia, flew out to Qatar with his company, Fiber Sports Management, who represent the likes of Liverpool and Wales legend Ian Rush and Liverpool prospect Owen Beck.

BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism student, Jack Fealy, landed a role as Assistant Producer for IMG over in Qatar. Jack has helped the UCFB media team with many projects over the past couple of years, including an interview with Hashtag United and becoming an ambassador on our Global sports summit.

After landing the role, he said it was a dream come true!

BA (Hons) Football Business and Media student, Rob Dawley, has been documenting the World Cup on his social channels.

Rob has been posting his experience on TikTok, giving real-time updates about what’s happening in Qatar from a fan’s perspective. He has been sharing videos of his experience at different venues and locations around Doha, along with some great behind the scenes access to exclusive events that are happening only during the tournament.

His unique perspective has really captured people’s attention from around the globe. He has attracted millions of views on his channel and gained attention from a range of media outlets. You can follow Rob on TikTok here.

On top of students and alumni, UCFB’s Dr Leah Johnstone and Global Institute of Sport’s Dr. Richard Elliott were in Qatar for the opening week of the tournament, delivering key educational initiatives at the Generation Amazing Festival, a key legacy project of the Qatar 2022 World Cup 🇶🇦🏆
