UCFB/GIS Associate Lecturer, Andy Golding, will provide much needed research to help the Gallagher Premiership become more sustainable as a business

Given the recent financial demise of Worcester Warriors and the suspension of the ‘mighty’ Wasps after revealing they are due to go into administration, the research being undertaken by Andy Golding, GIS/UCFB Associate Lecturer in Sport Business, Governance and Law, could not be more timely.

As part of his PhD, he is working with sports finance experts and well known authors, Dr Dan Plumley and Dr Rob Wilson on a series of papers specific to making professional rugby union and in particular the Gallagher Premiership more sustainable as a business.

The first paper which is currently under peer review proposes a new model of business sustainability specific to professional rugby union based on key characteristics, identified through research, expert opinion and insight. The current financial and governance situation of the Gallagher Premiership has generated considerable media interest and debate, which this research is supporting and informing.
