UCFB academic and Burnley FC practising psychologist Jen Lace is celebrating after presenting her first ever research paper at a leading industry conference.

Jen presented her paper, on the demands of a sport psychology practitioner working at a Premier League club, at the British Association for Sport and Exercise Sciences Conference in Nottingham – BASES 2016.

The conference was a two-day sport and exercise science programme full of world-leading insight and experience, giving Jen and others like her the opportunity to network and learn more about their discipline and new research.

Jen’s presentation concentrated on some of the demands that aren’t widely understood for working in a professional football club environment, in the hope it will help advance sport psychology by making recommendations for clubs, practitioners and educational institutions.

Commenting on the conference and her presentation, Jen said: “It was my first time presenting so I was nervous, especially as the audience included some of the best sport scientists in Europe, but when I got there I loved it. There was a lot of interesting people presenting their work and I felt at home at the conference, and I have even been speaking to some people about more ideas and collaborations to present again next year.”

Away from the conference, Jen was recently named as one of women of the future in the Northern Power Women (NPW) Top 50 Future list. Following her nomination, Jen was then selected to speak in front of world leaders at the UN in New York City to discuss gender equality, a topic she is hugely passionate about.
