Ever played a high-stakes game of cards? An innocent game of rock, paper, scissors turned stone-cold serious?

However much was at stake, and however much you wanted to win, it’s unlikely to match Jordan Macmillan’s chance encounter yesterday.

On his way to meet YouTube legend and rapper KSI at Boxpark Wembley, the BA (Hons) Football Coaching & Management student made a joke about asking him to pay for his tuition fees. The rest is history, as they say.

Here, Jordan summarises the unbelievable turn of events and the heart-warming generosity KSI showed to a complete stranger…

“As we set out for Boxpark Wembley, I jokingly said I’m going to ask KSI to pay for my tuition. As we were in the line to meet him I thought what’s the worse that could happen? So I walked up to him and I said “JJ, I have a preposition for you, if I beat you in a game of rock, paper, scissors you pay for my tuition, if you win I’ll give you a fiver”.

They all laughed and Ethan started to egg him on saying “do it, do it”. JJ asked how long was left in my tuition so I told him two years, so £18,000. Vikk suggested do one year and £9,000 which is what we agreed on in the end as you can see in the video. So we played rock, paper, scissors and I won and just started laughing. I was in shock. He then followed me on Instagram and got my details.

We got pictures and had a chat; they were quite excited when I told them I study Football Coaching & Management. I later got a message from him saying “enjoy it brother” so I checked my account and he sent me £18,000 for both years.

I was absolutely shocked I couldn’t believe it. He’s such a nice guy so I had no doubt he’d send it but I was so shocked he sent it that quickly. It still hasn’t settled in yet, I’m not sure it ever will. I sent him a message after to thank him trying to keep my cool but I couldn’t. I then phoned my family, tears everywhere. I still can’t believe it, I’ll probably invite him to my graduation.”

Moral of the story? We’re still trying to figure that one out, but it’s definitely something to do with being a little bit pushy every once in a while. At UCFB, we’re constantly reminding students to drag themselves out of their comfort zones whenever they can. So we’ll take a little bit of credit for what Jordan did yesterday.
