UCFB is delighted to announce that Sky Sports presenter Hayley McQueen and former football professional Gareth Seddon will be talking to students this week as part of the Executive Guest Speaker Series.

Hayley, a popular presenter on Sky Sports News, and Seddon, whose career saw him play for the likes of Bury and Chester before becoming a TV personality during his time at Salford City, will appear at UCFB Wembley and UCFB Etihad Campus respectively on Wednesday 12th October.

Hayley McQueen

Hayley has been a regular on Sky Sports’ screens as presenter of a number of football programmes, but is most well known for her turn as anchor of rolling news channel Sky Sports News, covering big breaking stories and the biannual Transfer Deadline Day.

As daughter of former Scotland international Gordon McQueen, Hayley was no stranger to football growing up and started her journey in the world of sports journalism with Middlesbrough’s in-house TV channel Boro TV as a reporter.

She went on to join Sky Sports for the first time before going on to MUTV – the dedicated Manchester United channel – fronting match coverage and interviewing players before returning to Sky Sports and fronting the News coverage as the channel relaunched.

Hayley’s experience of working at the high end of British sports journalism, working with high profile individuals and covering international events makes this a guest speaker session UCFB students will not want to miss.

Gareth Seddon

Widely known as Salford City’s star striker during the BBC series Class of ’92: Out of Their League, Gareth has had a well-travelled career through the non-leagues of English football and currently plies his trade at Ramsbottom United in the Evo-Stick League Division One North.

Gareth began his playing career later than most, signing for Bury when he was 21 after being rejected by Reading. Spells followed at the likes of Rushden & Diamonds and Worcester City before enjoying a goal-filled couple of years at Hyde United. Spells at Kettering Town, Fleetwood Town and FC Halifax United preceded his most memorable period as a player at Salford City, the club owned by former Manchester United players Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Neville brothers Gary and Phil.

His time at Salford coincided with the BBC filming a documentary on the trials and tribulations of the club, highlighting his goal scoring ability to an audience around the country.

Following a lengthy injury, he moved this summer to Ramsbottom and has already found the back of the net for his new club.

Hayley McQueen will appear at UCFB Wembley in the Great Hall from 10am-12pm. Gareth Seddon will be at UCFB Etihad Campus from 10am-12pm in the Commonwealth Suite.
