UCFB students were treated to a night of ringside boxing alongside former world champion Ricky Hatton thanks to a unique partnership with his academy.

Students from UCFB Etihad Campus travelled to Fenton Manor in Stoke to watch the Hatton Boxing event, which featured three fights including Hatton-trained prospect Reuben Arrowsmith taking on Ryan Toms.

A partnership between UCFB and the Ricky Hatton Boxing Academy has enabled students to visit Hatton’s numerous fitness centres to learn vital skills and experiences from another sport and its practitioners.

As well as learning different coaching skills, students have also been able to quiz The Hitman on his hugely successful boxing career and now business work, which includes the Academy, his own training ambitions and boxing clothing line.

The strength of the partnership was evident when UCFB students and staff were given the VIP treatment on fight night, after being invited to the event by Hatton’s team.

Commenting on the night, BA (Hons) Sports Business and Coaching student Michael Flannery said: “It was a fantastic event and a great experience to have been treated like we were in such a professional setup.”

Fellow student Paulo Chantre added: “I want to thank Ricky and his team for their hospitality and UCFB for providing us with the transport for my first live boxing experience. There were some great fights on the night.”
