UCFB International Football business student Sharon Hoyos-Martinez completed an exciting week of work experience dealing with the high-end pressures of a UEFA tournament.

Sharon, a second year BA (Hons) International Football Business student, was given the exciting opportunity when placed as a Team Liaison Officer for Italy during the UEFA U16’s Women’s Development Tournament at Loughborough University in April.

Whilst looking after the ‘Azzurine’ – the nickname given to the Italian youth teams – Sharon spoke in English and Spanish… and the little Italian she was able to muster.

Sharon said: “The experience was great as it gave me an insight into how international tournaments operate. All TLO’s worked closely with Stuart Brown, who’s an England Team Operations Coordinator, and so got to help out with logistics. This involved picking the team up from the airport and getting them from A to B throughout the week, sorting out day trips, as well as dealing with any issues and requests, and liaising with The FA staff and FIGC representatives.

“It was also great to see how much effort and work is involved from various people for U16 women’s football. All the girls seemed to love the experience which I think is vital in their development as future athletes. The Loughborough facilities were also amazing.”
