UCFB Wembley is delighted to announce it will host this year’s National Sports Law Negotiation Competition, in conjunction with Shulmans LLP law firm.

The event, which is in its second year and will take place in March, will see students in higher education institutions from around the country compete in mock negotiations dealing with issues currently affecting the sport industry.

Twenty teams will compete against each other, including two from UCFB, in negotiations that range from commercial sponsorship deals, breaches of contract and doping allegations.

The teams will be scored by a panel of 30 judges from the sport and law sectors, including The Football Association’s Head of Judicial Services Mark Ives, UK Sport’s Head of Governance Jane Purdon, and the Rugby Football Union’s Legal Counsel Stuart Tennant.

Students will be judged on their ability to capture the financial and commercial outcomes presented to them by their respective clients, with less emphasis placed on the law aspect.

The day will also offer students the chance to network with a number of professionals from the sport and sport law industries.

Sara Hale, BA (Hons) Sports Business and Sports Law programme leader at UCFB, said: “It’s an honour for UCFB to host this year’s National Sports Law Negotiation Competition. This event is the perfect opportunity for young and ambitious students to showcase their talent and make key contacts for their future careers. We’re really looking forward to welcoming all students, judges and officials from Shulmans LLP to the state-of-the-art Wembley Stadium.”

Ryan Adams, solicitor at Shulmans LLP and a specialist in commercial and sport law, added: “The National Sports Law Negotiation Competition is the perfect opportunity for students to test their negotiating skills and be judged by some of the very best in the business. We’re excited the take the competition to such an iconic venue and wish to thank UCFB for being willing hosts.”

The competition will take place on Wednesday 1st March at UCFB Wembley, inside Wembley Stadium.
